My name is Emily Wise VanderWoude; I live and work in Frederick (Hood College). As a member of the Public Art Commission, I fully support the allocation of funds (just under $34,000) to create new art at the Dog Park in Baker Park, as well as conservation efforts on two important and in-need pieces in the city's collection - the Shawbaker Flag and the City Seal. Additionally, the remaining funds to be designated towards a Neighborhood Reinvestment Mural Program would be beneficial to not only beautify our city, but to involve its citizens in determining what they want to see in terms of public art, where they live and work. As I've stated at previous public meetings, increasing, protecting, and promoting public art only benefits Frederick economically and makes it a creative hub and desired destination in our region.
