I would like to thank Mayor O’Connor and the Board of Alderman for their consideration of designating a section of Christophers Crossing as a school zone for the installation of a speed camera. The collected data illustrates the persistent disregard passing motorists have for posted speed limits, pedestrian crosswalks, and the safety of child and adult pedestrians and cyclists. At least three accidents (including one rollover) reinforce the clear danger that is present on this stretch of road. While the increased police presence is welcome and appreciated, it sadly only provides a temporary and inconsistent improvement. Given that other traffic calming measures (including speed bumps) are not possible and/or have failed, a traffic camera seems like the only remaining alternative to avoid the inevitable tragedy that will occur if some action is not taken. Thank you very much for your time.
