4. Approval of Ordinance to Amend §13-15 of The Code of the City of Frederick, Regarding the St. John's School Zone and the removal of the school zone designations for the Trinity School and Visitation Academy
I applaud all of the City officials who have who have invested time and attention to this ongoing issue. The anxiety experienced by the parents of our school children has been well documented in the past year to the point where a few residents have considered moving out of the community. I'd like to think that the Safe Speed Initiative had some input into this welcomed change in the school zone definition. This recommendation is on point in helping to ensure the safety of our children, residents and property and appears to be the best solution for this situation going forward. Thank you for your consideration in this matter
First, I'd like to thank the Mayor's Office, Board of Alderman and the Frederick Police Department for listening to the concerns of the Clover Ridge Neighborhood. As has been shown through the traffic study, speeding down the stretch of CC through Clover Ridge is inevitable and all too common without any traffic controls to slow vehicles. Frankly, I find myself, a resident of Clover Ridge, speeding at times. Downhill in modern day vehicles, you can easily find yourself going too fast. The result is a serious safety and quality of life concern that has developed in our neighborhood. We appreciate the value in the road as it relates to city planning. However, the development of the road without any traffic controls, along with the removal of bussing to the middle school is a recipe for disaster. On top of it, vehicles speeding through the neighborhood has eliminated the ability for our kids to visit the pool on bike or other friends' homes. Not the end of the world, but it is a quality of life issue and one that can be easily addressed, along with general noise issues. With two schools without bussing within a mile of our neighborhood, we are eager to have the school zone implemented. Thank you for your consideration. As Clover Ridge residents, we are so very excited and encouraged to see that our voices are being heard.
