Far from reducing the risks of war the proposed nuclear disarmament resolution's measures would make war more likely. Uncertainty among enemies as to whether the US would retaliate with nuclear weapons to an attack is a very powerful deterrent against any such attack on us, and our allies. Any pledge not to make first use would greatly weaken US deterrence and make war more likely. All the proposed measures in the resolution would weaken the United States' nuclear deterrent while leaving the world's bad actors -- Russian, China, Iran, North Korea -- relatively stronger in nuclear weapons. Do we really want to enhance the power of the likes of Putin, Xi, Khamenei and Kim? This resolution is crazy and should be withdrawn or rejected.
