5. Discussion of a request to rezone 5.37 acres on the northwest side of N. Market Street, south of the intersection of Schifferstadt Boulevard, from Neighborhood Commercial (NC) to the Mixed-Use floating zone, MU-2, as well as the master plan application for the construction of up to 60 multifamily units and 4,000 square feet of nonresidential space.
I am commenting on this because I am a homeowner in NAC 7. I was finally able to stop and take a picture of the sign on the side of the road regarding this meeting and see that there is additional high density housing planned for the neighborhood if this proposal for zoning change goes through. I moved to the neighborhood only four years ago because I wanted to live in a quieter area. Since that time we have had two high density housing projects built - the bottling plant and now cranberry station. I did check the zoning when I bought my house and it did not include multiple high density residential projects. I think it is only fair that information about this project be presented to the neighbors at the NAC 7 monthly meeting. I have read that this was presented at a citywide meeting but as a regular, working and busy citizen of the city it is almost impossible to keep track of when/ where these meetings are taking place. These issues used to be presented at the NAC meetings and the residents and home- owners to be impacted had the opportunity to be informed and involved. My opinion as a homeowner in the neighborhood is that this is too much, too soon. And I would ask that the planning commission hold off changing the zoning designation until the neighborhood has had additional time to respond to this potential change. I am asking the Board of Aldermen and the Mayor that the information about this project be shared at a NAC 7 meeting and allow the neighbors to be impacted to have a voice. I am unable to be in attendance at the meeting this evening but I do appreciate the chance to be able to send in these comments. Christine Franklin, NAC 7
