In reviewing the recent budget, it is stated that 3 new employees will be hired to the Parks and Recreation department. I am not sure that is necessarily needed as a Parks and Rec director recently fired the roller derby employee they had hired and then also cancelled, disbanded our roller derby league, leaving a nice gap in funds for that department. Since the league’s discriminatory actions were of that of one person controlling the league(in verbal agreement with a city Parks and Rec director)and we have now reformed a board of directors, we implore the city to use funding instead to reinstate our league without interference or management.
If the Parks and Rec current director is to allow us to continue under the current financial allowances, it will have us go broke as a league fairly quickly. This is a team run league so we do eventually obtain a non-profit status. The current terms just do not allow our league to sustain itself.
We would like to be allowed to continue our roller derby league with the city Parks and Recreation department at a reduced rate or under mutual circumstances by contract. It is a centralized program in the state and extremely beneficial to the community.
