Dear Mayor and Alderpersons.
I understand that the upcoming budget will indeed include funds for improvements within Mullinix Park. I want to thank you and say we look forward to working with your staff to hash out the details.
Last year the organization requested the City Parks and Recreation Department place two smaller pavilions each with table and grill down the hill from the one large pavilion . We believe this will encourage smaller family-sized groups to use the park as the large pavilion is imposing and expensive to reserve.
We would also like the opportunity to meet with Mr. Smith to discuss a few small scale maintenance improvements to aide pedestrian safety and enhance aesthetics. Those should not require special budget considerations but are important to our members just the same.
Friends of Mullinix Park was founded in 2000 and over the years has encouraged wholesome use of the park and advocated for physical improvement that will benefit users of all ages. We believe these enhancements will further that goal
Thank you for your response to our budget request and for your continued support helping us to make Mullinix Park a true jewel in downtown Frederick .
I am writing to express my support for rebuilding the Hill Street Skatepark in the city of Frederick and encourage city hall to fund the rebuild in their upcoming budget. This action will promote local businesses and attract capital to the community.
I am a Frederick transplant from Montgomery County, MD and I now live in Ballenger Creek with my wife. The skatepark offers a utility as a public good that city hall should prioritize for the community. My wife and I are expecting our first kid in the fall, and it would be ideal if my family could make use of the vision laid out by Alderman Russell of a “state of the art skatepark with public art opportunities and community gathering spaces.”
I started going to Hill Street Skatepark in 2005 when Pitcrew would organize events and skateboard demonstrations at the park. Since Pitcrew closed in late 2017, there has not been a single skateboard demonstration from a national brand or team at the skatepark. Brent at Embark has done a phenomenal job of keeping the Frederick skate community engaged since Pitcrew shut down, and a remodeled skatepark will further develop and nurture the community of skateboarders in Frederick.
Frederick needs the modern-day, world class skatepark it once had in the early 2000s when Hill Street first opened. Its current state is unsafe and is in need of a complete overhaul. Since moving to Frederick in 2021, I have not gone to Hill Street due to its current state after nearly 20 years of use. I have instead driven to other skateparks outside of Frederick or the remodeled basketball court that is now Sagner skatepark. I think it would be enjoyable for both myself and the community if city hall would budget to rebuild the skatepark and revitalize the Hillcrest area with an exciting new public park.
I hope you all will consider this investment in the community. I appreciate this opportunity to have my voice heard and I ask that you create a plan in your upcoming budget to address the needs at Hill Street skatepark.
I am a Frederick County resident in support of rebuilding the Hill Street skatepark. As a recent homeowner in the Hillcrest community for 5 years up until 2022, I have avoided using the current skatepark due to its deteriorating condition and outdated obstacles. I travel 3-5 times a week from 40 minutes to an hour to use newer, modern facilities such as the Hagerstown and Rockville skateparks.
The Hillcrest community deserves a chance to update it’s facilities. With two elementary schools in such close proximity (Hillcrest and Butterfly Ridge), there is such a large population of children that would benefit from having a safe facility to ride their skateboards, bicycles, scooters, and inline skates. It’s time funds were allocated to underserved parts of Frederick to directly improve recreational activities of the community.
This would also be an opportunity for skate tourism, from County visitors to those outside the county, this will bring in a large range of use and directly support local businesses.

I would like to voice my support for the Hill Street Skate Park rebuild project. The skate park is in need of a rebuild and revamp. Many surfaces are not usable any longer due to wear. I understand that funds are limited, however, investing in the rebuild of Hill Street Skate Park would be an investment in the community and public health. Skateboarding is now an olympic sport and the particpants are from every background - old, young, men, women, children, and people of all races and cultures. A well-designed, well-maintained public skate park provides a central meet-up point for the community to grow and evolve. It provides a space for skateboarders, rollerbladers, rollerskaters, bikers, and scooters to excercise, practice their hobby, and enjoy the great city of Frederick.
