Replace many of police functions with an array of mental health and economic support services. We over rely on a militarized police force to solve problems police are neither equipped nor trained to solve (such as homelessness and mental health). 9 out of 10 calls for police service are for nonviolent encounters. 287g is a despicable program, and providing any support to ICE, an organization that engages in monstrous behavior such as enforcing the child separation policy, is morally unjustifiable. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/fixgov/2020/06/19/what-does-defund-the-police-mean-and-does-it-have-merit/
